The key problem addressed in my DreamIT project is my students’ lack of critical thinking skills, and my students’ inability to evaluate information for credibility. The objective of the unit is that students can determine credible versus non credible sources of information, and can use that information to support their topic.
The technologies that students will use are search engines, web page creation tools (such as Google Sites, Weebly, or Wordpress) and collaborative document tools (such as Google Docs/Drive). Students would be led through demonstrations of the technologies needed to complete the task.
From a teaching perspective, this will address the problem with students not using credible websites for information. It will also address the problem of not conducting productive web searches. By showing students ways to narrow down their searches to obtain the most relevant information, students will be able to find quality, credible, information in less time.
I will evaluate success of this integration by observation. If students are using quality resources, the main goal will be met. If students can design a webpage that is visually pleasing, easy to navigate, and communicates their information effectively, that goal will have been met as well.
